Engineered wood products are designed to provide greater strength, higher quality, and more uniform dimensions than conventional framing lumber. Many of the common problems associated with dimensional lumber joists and beams such as shrinkage, twisting, warping, and squeaking can be greatly reduced by using engineered wood products.

I-Joist
I-Joists are stronger pound for pound, straighter and more reliable than traditional lumber, with reduced moisture content for floors with fewer pops and squeaks. And, because pound for pound they have a greater load-bearing capacity than sawn lumber, you can engineer the structural components of floors and cathedral ceilings with fewer pieces, saving installation and materials costs.

Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL)
LVL (laminated veneer lumber) has consistent dimensions and density and is stronger and straighter than traditional lumber. Pound-for- pound, LVL has more load-carrying capacity than common grades of sawn lumber, making it ideal for beams, headers and other primary load carrying members.

Laminated Strand Lumber (LSL)
You can use LSL (Laminated Strand Lumber) anywhere you can use traditional lumber. The difference: you may not need as much of it. Its enhanced strength lets it span greater distances. And LSL resists twisting, warping and shrinking, so you don’t need to assemble built-up headers or beams.

Rim Board
OSB and cross-ply LVL make great material for rim board. Choose between them for Rim Board, which has been precision cut in 12' or 16' lengths to the perfect depth to use witht I-Joists and LVL beams.

Glue Laminated Timbers (glulam)
Glulam comprises kiln-dried wood laminations, or "lams", bonded together with strong, waterproof adhesives. They may also be made of preservative treated lumber for exterior use like outdoor decks. They come in industrial and architectural grades depending on whether the beam will be visible. We provide balanced glulams, meaning there is no specific top and bottom—they can be installed in any orientation. (Unbalanced glulams have a clearly labeled top.) Glulams also work well as posts and columns because they are stronger and less likely to twist, bow, or split.
